Interesting and well written. Having been a coach of endurance athletes back in the stone age, you validate what we were taught in how to design a training program. But of course we didn't have tools to measure what was going on. Or we did but they were a stopwatch, paper and pen and the athletes fingers on their carotid artery measuring heart rates.
I also note that your success, aside from training hard and training smart comes from finding your sweet spot. Your love and understanding of data helps you to adopt to this approach and adapt how you train more easily than someone who isn't data driven. And it doesn't hurt that you always have a view of your fast and beautiful wife in the horizon to be chasing. You're never going to catch her Norm, but it's a great goal!
