In the 1990s, when the Internet revolution was just getting started, database industry legend Jim Gray used to say "never underestimate the bandwidth of a semi trailer full of tapes barreling down the highway."
It's interesting to see that it took 20 years for what was presumably a "thought experiment" statement designed to puncture people's reality about network bandwidth to be turned into physical reality.
