Earlier in the week I described the technologies around the Kindle eBook. My previous books were only printed in bulk as hardbacks in a printing press. For SAP Nation, couple of authors encouraged me to also offer it in print on demand, paperback – so individual readers could order copies. I am impressed with the early demand for this format.
I am using CreateSpace and IngramSpark for printing the 352 page book in a “prefect bound”, matte cover, 6x9 format.
As the video below shows, an amazing amount of robotics and factory technology come together at Ingram to print 50,000 books each day from a digital warehouse of over 6 million titles. And with Amazon’s logistical prowess, the books are delivered to readers within a couple of days. Not as efficient as the Kindle distribution process but so much more so than the traditional book supply chain.
