I got my son a Spot GPS Messenger for his summer trip so he could relay his coordinates in remote areas they were hiking in.
The company has recently introduced an asset tracking solution called Trace
ABQ Journal describes
“You mount the 2-inch-wide Trace module on a boat, truck, snowmobile, ATV or any other object. It syncs with a satellite network. Vibration sensors “wake up” the Trace if it’s moved, and then the unit begins automatically tracking its route.
In my simulation, I simply had a friend carry the Trace down the block and to the restaurant for a tracking test. In short order an email came through on my personal account titled “Movement Alert from SPOT GJ-TRACE.”
The device, the email informed me, was at Latitude: 44.95041, Longitude: -93.28711 at the time of 11:50:25 CST. It then offered: “Click the link below to see where the asset is located.”
A click to a Google map revealed the waypoints and markers. It showed my friend and the Trace location a half-mile away.”
