At the Microsoft Analyst Event this week, there was an innocent looking slide on customer feedback on the Surface tablets introduced last year.
What followed was a pretty dazzling glimpse into Windows 8.1 devices from Microsoft and OEM partners (like the Dell Venue 8 Pro). Amazing the rapid improvement in processor speed, screen resolution, battery life, weight, LTE support and many other specs.
But the Surface accessories really impressed. There was plenty of oohing and aahing in the audience about the docking station in particular, but the backlit Power Covers, the Bluetooth wireless adapter for the Type Covers, the car charger with an additional USB port, and the Arc Touch mouse which travels flat are just as impressive.
Microsoft is seeing quite a bit of interest for the Surface in healthcare. Not surprisingly it has filed a patent application for method would send ultraviolet light bouncing through a film on or inside a touchscreen, disinfecting fingertips and contact areas without blasting the person directly.
