I have always been impressed how Dennis Howlett travels to events around the world and manages to video blog near live. As he interviewed me at the Workday Rising conference this morning, I turned the tables and asked him about his technology, his splicing and other processes and the complexity of travel with all that equipment.

Travel
"I pack everything (including computer and cables) into a single video backpack with tripod harness which goes in the main cabin. The backpack is a Think Tank - relatively inexpensive - but by far the best setup of any I've had over the years.I've now gotten into a routine where I let the security people know I'm carrying a camera kit so the only thing I have to take out is the laptop. That way they know to expect certain 'shapes' inside the bag. The biggest issue is the 'short gun' mic which is aptly named and which sometimes gives security a problem. It's shape (like a shotgun barrel) and unusual looking vents make it an obvious target for examination. So for those occasions I make sure it is at the top of the pile inside the backpack.
That's a vast improvement on 12-18 months ago when security would have me tip pretty much everything out of the bag."
He makes it look so easy!
