I wrote recently about the 50 shades of Independence, and highlighted Consumer Reports as a model for analysts and bloggers to emulate. They accept no advertising or corporate contributions. They purchase everything they test at retail prices.
And they influence technology more than you may think. They put pressure on Apple to fix antenna issues with the 4S version of the iPhone. They called out issues with Ford’s MyTouch user interface. They run annual satisfaction surveys of mobile carriers. They are constantly evaluating new technnology products and services.
To support their $ 25 million testing budget they sell subscriptions and rely on donations. I support them both ways.
If you would like to support solid, independent analysis, please consider making a tax-deductible donation here.
Thanks!
