“A “smart grid for waste & recycling,” from BigBelly Solar, Inc., combines solar-powered remote monitoring and on-site compaction to reduce collection demand and enable or increase public-space recycling. Network monitoring software provides the information required to drive deep efficiencies in deployment and management of assets and crews. The system delivers unprecedented visibility into and control over operations, allowing operators to reduce collections 70-80% with confidence and system-wide knowledge. Reducing collection demand is a fundamental way to advance sustainability and Zero Waste goals: after all, the cleanest gallon of fuel is the one you don’t have to burn at all. Allowing cities to manage overflow risk and operate at appropriate capacity – not peak capacity – saves millions of dollars and frees up resources so cities can self-fund recycling collection operations within their existing staff resource levels.”

I think that using a smart system when doing waste removal is the best option. We might as well be as efficient as possible when removing waste. Thanks for the article.

This seems like a great system, I wouldn't mind trying it at all or our community try out this waste removal in a proper way thing. I am all for new great ideas that will benefit everyone. I have heard great things about this.

That's very interesting, I had never even thought about that. We have been wondering how it all works though. I wonder if it's on the show called "How it's Made"?

Thank for this article, I have been wondering what the waste removal in Orlando is doing to help their community. I know that it just doesn't magically disappear, but the city does have a program for waste removal. http://wasteservicesofcentralflorida.com

I think a lot more states are focusing more on waste removal. Orlando Florida has really cracked down on it especially since it's such a tourist location with Disney World and all. http://wasteservicesofcentralflorida.com
