Dennis Howlett pointed out to me London based Hoptroff which is a “silicon foundry which designs and patents electronic watch movements for ‘future classic’ timepieces.
An example from their “Carte des Ebauches”
“Bluetooth Low Energy is a new wireless technology being introduced during 2011 and 2012. It allows the wristwatch to make the small
communications hop to smartphones while still only requiring coin-cell power.
The phone connection allows the watch to complement the phone, rather than compete with it for the customer’s attention, and allows
access to live data from RSS data feeds using Hoptroff software on the phone. Connection via a PC is also possible.”
It continues the tradition of other watch industry innovations from that city including the 1664 invention of the balance spring and the 1753 innovation related to temperature compensation.
