Most in the technology industry make regular treks to Orlando (as many will this week for SAP's event Sapphire) and never seem to leave their hotels or the Convention Center – or if they do they go to the tech-rich Disney and other theme parks or drive to Kennedy Space Center (like some are planning for the launch Monday).
Hey, nothing wrong with that – this blog is all about tech and there are posts on many of those attractions. But if you want a few non-tech attractions check out some below:
- Showcase of Citrus - where you can pick your own oranges and other citrus or take a tour around this 2,500 acre spread and take a buggy ride – the closest many will get to the Everglades or an alligator!
- Swim with Dolphins – at Discovery Cove
- or a short drive away
- Swim with Manatees – on this boat tour
- Go antique shopping in Mount Dora and enjoy some dated technology - take an train ride with Herbie, a 1940s locomotive
- Drive to Ybor City, near Tampa and visit what used to be a bustling cigar center and now is a National Historic Landmark District.
- Go to Saint Augustine, the oldest city in the country. See the Fountain of Youth Ponce de Leon is supposed to have come looking for and much more.
There’s plenty more to do with sun and sand nearby when you have had enough of software and sensors on your visit.
