“After it became clear that there were no plans to move the tournament (in Qatar) to the winter, scientists developed them to battle summer temperatures of up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Using the clouds has the potential to reduce the temperature on the field by 10 degrees.
The clouds, which cost $500,000 each, are made of lightweight carbon and held aloft with helium. Solar-powered engines move them via remote control.”
