OK, so not as chic as SXSW or waiting at the Apple Store for an iPad2, but I went with my daughter to the annual event in Plant City, FL. Yes, plenty of farm animals and farm products, and everything you can think of in batter and deep fried and of course plenty of shortcakes and jams, but surprisingly also plenty of technology.
Start with the fair’s Facebook page. Mobile readers at the many gates to read tickets. Number of Kubota tractors. New Ford cars. Booths with Yamaha digital pianos, next-gen spas and hot tubs, Verizon Wireless phones and those with “bionic bands” which claim to reverse the proton imbalance caused by cell phones and home electronics.
BTW Plant City is not named after the region’s agricultural bounty but after Henry B. Plant who brought technology in the form of railroads in 1884 to the community.
