My wife used some expiring Delta miles to get a subscription to Time. I must admit, like Rip Van Winkle, I have not leafed in years through that catalog of mainstream zeitgeist.
And the pervading feeling I got from the first issue we were delivered was how much technology permeates our life:
Cover and feature article starting Page 26 – on militia and how they use the web and the scary technology they have access to
Page 2 - ad which shows a runner with a wristband with MP3 player and headphones
Page 7 -Letters to the editor are titled Inbox
Page 12 – insurance ad shows a lady owner of her camera shop
Page 18 – a healthcare ad from Sage Software
Page 34 – feature story on Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay, now running for Governor of California
Page 38 – feature on how Netflix used technology to clobber Blockbuster
Page 46 – How a digital camera helps an acute amnesiac remember her day
Page 53 – how analytics are helping pinpoint and protect juveniles who are likely to be targets of violence
Page 55 – a story on Wikitravel
Page 57 – an ad for the Time Android App
Page 58 – an ad from Rosetta Stone, the linguistic software company
Page 65 – an ad from the Girls Scout showing 3 ladies with cameras, one with a massive zoom
Page 66 – a calling card ad
Page 68 – an essay on Mark Zuckerberg
Back over – Kindle ad.
I thought there was an unwritten rule that cereal ads got the last word in Time?
