As we dropped our daughter off on Monday at the grand-old Philadelphia 30th Street station, I saw a kiosk with the planned High-Speed Network - see routes in red below to extend the current Acela route in Northeast.
I love trains but the present Amtrak network in the Southeast just makes it so impractical to use on a regular basis.
Who knows when the US high-speed vision will come true but it sure would be nice to have it beyond just the Northeast.

Just back from trip taking the Eurostar from London to Paris and back. Aside from the speed and smoothness of the ride, timeliness of the schedule, and the comfort of the seats and work areas, the biggest distinction vs US air travel is the service staff is gracious! Not sure if that will translate.

PS the terminals aren't any better than their airport brethren if one is traveling coach
