In the 80s, I spent many months in Jubail and Yanbu, two coastal towns Saudi Arabia literally built from the ground up with the oil revenues in the 70s.
Flush with another round of oil money, Saudi Arabia is building King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) a futuristic city - 3 times the size of Manhattan - from the sand up between Yanbu and the bustling city of Jeddah on the Red Sea. It has six components - sea port, industrial district, educational zone, central business district with commercial, mixed-use, retail outlets and financial island, resorts and residential area.
