"Parisians have taken a shine to their
city's new bike rental scheme, clocking up one million rides since its
launch two weeks ago. More than 10,000 gleaming grey "Velib'' bicycles
went up for rental at 750 stations across the city on July 15, with
their number set to double to 20,600 by the end of the year" - news.com.au.More at CNN Travel.
While the bikes are actually clunky and 3 speed (rugged is the polite term), the renting stations are high tech to allow electornic locking/release of bikes, RFID interface with bikes, electronic payment cards. And Webraska, a provider of mobile GPS solutions already has Velib locations on its "points of interest" list, so you can let the GPS do the navigation while you pedal.
.
Dosen't the GPS kinda take away the romance of the city?
