Remember doctor house calls? Or even a personal doctor you went and waited for an hour to see for 10 minutes? Medical malpractice suits have been pushing professionals out, but even larger forces are at play:
- Basic medical services from retailers like Wal-Mart
- Robots doing basic chores and not so basic medical procedures
- Telepresence allowing for remote - even offshore - medical care. Medical "tourism" where patients fly to S. Africa and Thailand for care and finally "virtual therapy" where patients can fantasize they are not really at the doctor's office.
