Dis-intermediating the publisher market is what Bob Young, CEO of Lulu.com (and co-founder of Red Hat, the Open source software vendor) wants to do. With e-tailing through the likes of amazon.com and its own storefront and just in time printing, the company turns the traditional economics of publishing on its head. No more wasted paper. Higher royalties for authors. Potential viability for small print sizes. Like blogs, individual book publishing may be ready to explode.
