Innovation is rampant in technology. The problem you are seeing is that every industry is beholden to its customers. The innovators you note are all those who looked at their customers differently (plus new ones).

Thanks, Jill...not sure I agree customers are the major culprits. To me, IT budgets are filled with "utility" spned - incumbent vendors, staff more focused on compliance and control than innovation. Also, executives who were bitten by the Y2K, ERP, eBiz sticker shock and are just plain cyncial of technology. Small innovation projects done by CIOs/CTOs are going a long way to regain that trust.
