If you like to churn your cars every 2-3 years, ignore this post.
But if you like to keep them longer you may find like we do with couple of our cars, they missed the transition to standard MP3 aux and USB ports. So with the new iPhone 5 I went to my trusty after-market dealer to upgrade our previous Bluetooth steups. Tried to upgrade firmware, and said probably better to get a new one.
He installed the Parrot MKi9100. Nice features - the display is decoupled from the controls which are now on a remote. This way the display can go just about anywhere. It has adjustable dual (DSP-3) microphones. It streams A2DP stereo music. With the optional TextFriendly service it converts text messages and mail. The handoff from car to headset and back when I made a stop worked smoothly. It brews coffee (not)
And here's a nice bonus. He installed in the glove compartment a wire with 3 ports - an aux for non Bluetooth MP3 devices, a connector for iPads and a USB port. With the USB I could at least plug in a coffee warmer :)
The car feels hip. The other car is jealous. One more week of testing and I will upgrade the other car also. Small reward for a couple more years of service.
