I spent some time at the Honeywell booth at the Descartes event last week and was impressed with the wide range of form/factors it offers for the mobile worker (their catalog is much larger than the ones they had on display)
Two common features across all – they are ruggedized to handle the rigors of field commerce, and they 1D and 2D imagers. Of course, each has some interesting feature set in addition.
Here are some I saw
a) Captuvo SL22
This is a “sled” for an iPod Touch. It enhances all the consumery features of the iPod with scanning and encrypted magnetic stripe card reader
b) Dolphin 99EX
This is what UPS now uses as its DIAD for its thousands of delivery staff. Outstanding feature: on the fly switching between GSM and CDMA networks, leading to improved network coverage and lower costs from standardized device provisioning and deployment.
Combines functionality of a tablet, laptop and smartphone – only 2.2 lbs which with a back strap allows for a secure and ergonomic wrist/palm placement. And just in case, up to 4 foot drop ruggedness.
Adds thousands of Android apps (via Google Play) to the previous, proven 7800 iterations
