A reason all by itself to visit our neck of the woods is the Dali Museum. As you walk around you wonder what Dali, who was fascinated by math and science, would do with today’s tools. How much more Hallucinogenic would his Toreador be? What would his Avatars that showed up in every piece of his art look like? Would melting iPhones and disappearing AT&T 3G bars replace clocks in his Persistence of Memory?
The bad thing with the current museum is it is too small. Apparently only one filth of the collection can be displayed at any given time. So they are creating a new one. One that Dali would drool over.
“Dubbed Placa Dali, the avant-garde waterfront structure will feature a cascading river of glass spilling out from the center of an unadorned, three story building. The glass, which the museum is calling the "Engima," will serve as both entrance and skylight to the main structure, called the "Treasure Box."
The Engima will mimic the shape of a helical staircase that will spiral 28 feet from the ground floor to the museum's main third level gallery. Dali's work was heavily influenced by the discovery of DNA and the double helix in the 1950's.”
