Shai Agassi, formerly of SAP has launched a green business. Instead of seeking breakthrough improvements in electric fuel technology, he wants to start using what is available in today's capabilities. He is investing in a distribution channel which sells those batteries on a lease basis. This reduces the initial cost of the electric car, and should significantly grow an ecosystem of recharging centers, which then can keep rolling out improvements in technology as other entrepreneurs deliver them.
Initial deployment will likely in "contained" places like islands. Read more at WSJ.
